When I think of Slovenia, I can’t help but smile. It’s a place like no other, so calm, so green, so wonderfully different. The wide-open spaces and pristine landscapes felt like a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s true, Slovenia can be expensive, but its beauty, serenity, and the kindness of its people make it all worthwhile.
Lake Bled
If you think of Slovenia, you’re thinking Lake Bled. It is the destination for visitors who travel through Europe, they usually ,plan a day trip to Slovenia just to experience this legendary lake. With its striking blue waters, its church, and its charming castle perched on a hilltop, Lake Bled is truly exquisit.
After visiting Ljubljana, we couldn’t wait to hit the road to Lake Bled. As we arrived in town, the charm greeted us instantly. Driving down the hill toward the lake, we could barely contain our excitement. The blue water came into view, slowly slowly, we got closer and the magic began.
Once you stand next to it, you finally feel its beauty. Walking around the lake is a must; as you walk you’ll catch different shades of blue, depending on the light and what’s under the surface. Morning, midday, or sunset, each time of day is like a new filter, making it even more beautiful.
But the charm of Lake Bled isn’t just about the dreamy blue water. No. It’s also that tiny island with a church smack in the middle of the lake. The island with its charming church sits on the lake like a diamond brooch on a blue coat, adding beauty and elegance to the already stunning scene. And then you can’t help but wonder how do they built that? Hauling stones in little rowboats centuries ago to create a church that still stands tall? Impressive!
There are plenty of little wooden boats called Pletna boats that you can rent to go explore the island, visit the church and ring the famous whishing bell. All you have to do is sit back, enjoy the ride, and soak in the views as you glide toward the island.

Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is another breathtaking gem in Slovenia. It’s the largest lake in the country, and during summer, it transforms into a camper’s paradise. The lake is surrounded by endless camping spots, and finding a place to park your car, or even a spot by the water to swim. can turn into a fun little adventure because of how lively it gets. You’ll be surprised by the number of tents scattered around the lake, giving it a vibrant and good vibe.
Lake Bohinj is perfect for every kind of activity like swimming, hiking, kayaking, or simply chilling with a good book by the water. If you’re up for a scenic break, there are cozy little spots along the road where you can stop and relax. One of our favorites was near a charming bridge, where a small riverside coffee stand had chairs set up right by the water. Sipping coffee with the sound of the river in the background is a pure bliss.

Tolminska Korita

Tolminska Korita (Tolmin Gorges) is another beautiful natural attraction in Slovenia that you must visit, it is located in Triglav National Park near the town of Tolmin. It’s a magical spot where the emerald waters of the Tolminka and Zadlaščica rivers carve deep gorges through towering cliffs. Walking through it is incredibly beautiful, it feels out of this world. I found myself stopping at every turn just to admire the stunning scenery, and honestly, that was the best part.
The walk takes about one hour, you will see Devil’s Bridge, Bear’s head rock, and the thermal spring.
Lasko

Lasko is a charming town in Slovenia, famous for its thermal pools and spa resorts. It’s the perfect place to relax and recharge by soaking in warm mineral water that is Known for its healing properties.
The town is split by a river. It’s a joy to stroll along the riverbanks, surrounded by gardens and lush green spaces. On one side, there’s a charming hilltop palace turned into a restaurant, while on the other side stands a picturesque church. But the heart of Lasko’s life is its thermal pool, where locals gather, especially after work, to unwind and soak in the healing waters.
My Tips
- When visiting Lake Blade, avoid the midday crowds if you can by visiting early morning or around sunset for a peaceful experience and stunning light for photos, also helps to find a parking spot if you go by car. Renting a boat in the morning ensures calmer waters.
- Lake Bohinj is perfect for swimming, hiking, and camping. Bring a picnic, water shoes, and a towel if you want to jump in. Parking can be tricky in summer, so arrive early or park farther out and enjoy a scenic walk.
- Spend a hole day at the thermal pools, an I highly recommend having Cocoa butter massage at their Spa. Click here to visit the website. After your soak, explore the town, and don’t miss the hilltop restaurant for a meal with a view.
- At Telminska Korita you need a proper shoes as the gorges can be slippery. Bring a light jacket even in summer, it can be chilly. Don’t rush, stop often to admire the turquoise waters and cliffs.
- Weather in Slovenia can change quickly. Bring a rain jacket wherever you go. Comfortable shoes are a must for exploring lakes and gorges.
- Stay on a farm if you truly love nature, or if you’ve got little ones who need to burn some energy. We stayed in a charming farmhouse that I highly recommend as we enjoyed everything about it, especially our daily chats with the locals. The fresh air, animals, and people there made it an unforgettable experience. It is called Homestead farm Tesnak, click here to go to the page.
