Churros are very popular in both Spain and Portugal, and they are a beloved snack or dessert in many other parts of the world as well. These crispy, fried dough pastries are often enjoyed with a variety of dips and toppings, making them a versatile and delicious treat.
In Spain, churros are a staple at breakfast and are often enjoyed with a cup of thick, rich hot chocolate for dipping. They can also be found at street vendors and in cafes throughout the day.
In Portugal, a similar pastry known as “churro” or “filhós” is popular, especially during festive occasions like Christmas and Carnival. Portuguese churros are often flavored with ingredients like orange zest and brandy.
Churros are delicious, crispy Spanish pastries that are often enjoyed as a sweet treat. Here’s a traditional churros recipe:
Churros
**Ingredients:**
For the Churro Dough:
– 1 cup water
– 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
– 1 egg (optional)
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
For Frying:
– Vegetable oil, for frying
For Coating:
– 1/4 cup white sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Chocolate Sauce:
1/2 cup liquid cream
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped



1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and stir in the 1 cup of flour until the mixture forms a ball.; then add the egg and mix well. This is your churro dough.
3. Heat vegetable oil for frying in a deep fryer or large.
4. While the oil is heating, spoon the churro dough into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
5.Carefully pipe strips of dough on a tray or directly into the hot oil. You can cut them with scissors or a knife if they’re getting too long.


6. Fry churros until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-4 minutes per side.
7. Remove the churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
8. In a shallow dish, combine 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in this mixture to coat them evenly.
9. Serve the churros immediately while they are still warm, ideally with a cup of hot chocolate or a side of caramel sauce for dipping.


10. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium-low heat until it starts to simmer. Be careful not to let it boil.
11. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and add the finely chopped chocolate.
12. after 1 min, mix well, then pour the warm chocolate sauce into a serving bowl or individual dipping cups.
