 1. Get Travel Insurance:

It is  important to a  travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and evacuation, especially for international travel. Check your credit card you may have a coverage. Many credit cards, particularly premium or travel-focused ones, often offer various types of travel-related insurance as a cardholder benefit. This can include emergency medical insurance, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, rental car coverage, and more.

2. Stay Up to Date on Vaccination:

Consult with a travel health clinic or healthcare provider well in advance of their trip to discuss recommended vaccinations, boosters, and health precautions to protect against common diseases in the region such as hepatitis, typhoid, or rabies. Some countries may require proof of vaccinations like yellow fever or COVID-19 vaccines.

3. Pack Essential Medication:

If you are taking prescription medications, make sure to carry  in your bag an ample supply for the duration of your trip. It’s also a good idea to have a copy of your prescription, also pack pain relievers, antacids, antihistamines, and any other medications you might need.

4. Keep your travel documents safe:

Carry both physical and digital copies of important documents. when you Scan your documents use a strong password or biometric security on your digital device.  You can use the hotel safe, I also suggest using document sleeves or waterproof pouches to protect physical copies from any damage. Keep your documents and cards  organized and secure by using passport wallets, which I find very useful, fits many passports and cards, fits easily in my purse and waterproof unlike my old one that got soaked by leaking water bottle.

5. Manage Your Money Safely:

It is a good idea to take two credit/credit cards with you, so when you have a problem with one card you still have a back up, I also advise you to carry a reasonable amount of the local currency of the destination you are visiting. I always do that at the airport at the  exchange office; this ensures you can make purchases in places where cards are not accepted.

6. Avoid tourist scams:

Beware of distractions in busy tourist areas and be cautious if someone is overly eager to help or befriend you. Use reliable transportations like licensed taxis or ride sharing services instead of accepting rides from random individuals. Keep your belongings secure by using anti-theft bags, money belts, or hidden pouches. Be mindful of pickpockets in crowded areas, and this bag can make you feel much safer in those areas.

Always negotiate prices and confirm costs for services like taxis, tours, and goods before you agree to anything. Ask for receipts when applicable and  count your change carefully.

7. Keep Emergency contacts Handy:

Contact your embassy or consulate in case of emergency.

8. Secure Your Luggage:

Ensuring the safety of your luggage is essential when traveling. Both using smart tags and traditional methods like locks and luggage tags have their advantages, and you can even combine them for added security
